Useless Minutae Time: These two PortaColor sets are almost identical except for the color of their front panel, and the fact that one was made in August 1976, and the other was made in April 1977. [The front of the "August 1976" set isn't shown on this site] Note, however, two minor differences evidinced by these back views. First, note that the lead-in for the built-in antenna on the earlier TV is routed through the inside of the cabinet and pokes out of a slot near the antenna terminals, while the antenna lead-in is entirely outside the cabinet on the 1977-version of this set. [I assume this saved a few cents in manufacturing costs]
Also, note that there are four regular patents identified on the 1977 set, whereas the 1976 set only has three. [Evidently, the fourth one hadn't been officially granted by the Patent Office yet.] Sure, it's pretty useless information, but perhaps it would provide an external indication of a late-production Portacolor set in cases where the manufacturing date sticker is missing.
